India Winning Hearts At Tokyo Paralympics 2021. Full List Of Medal Holders!

Earlier this month during Tokyo Olympics, Indian athletes gave us various pride moments by winning the most medals for India at the Olympics. India finished at the 48th position in the medal tally by winning 7 medals with 1 gold, 2 silvers, and 4 bronze medals. But wait our Paralympians are none less. 

India has started the Tokyo Paralympics campaign with glisters. Till today, our athletes have won 8 medals with 2 gold medals, 4 silver, and 2 bronze medals. This is India’s best performance at the Paralympics. It seems that Tokyo has proved to be the rise of India’s golden glory. 

Let’s have look at the contenders who have won medals so far. 

Avani Lekhara

Avani has registered her name as the first Indian women athlete to win a gold medal in the Paralympics for the nation. She has grabbed the gold medal in Shooting. Avani who comes from Jaipur, Rajasthan sustained spinal cord injuries during a car accident in 2012. She has said earlier that her idol is Abhinav Bindra, the first Indian individual to win the gold medal. 

Sumit Antil

I know no one has forgotten the name of Neeraj Chopra yet and why not. After all, he has won the first-ever gold medal for the country in athletics. But wait do you know about Sumit Antil? You must have known him now. Sumit has won a gold medal in the javelin throw F64 category with a record throw of 68.55m the category. Sumit who lives in Sonipat used to do wrestling before he lost his leg in a bike accident in the year 2015. He also holds the record of the second and third highest throw. 

Yogesh Kathunia

Yogesh has created history by winning a silver medal in the discus throw (F56) event. He got a paralysis attack which led to impaired coordination in his limbs. 

Devendra Jhajharia

Rio Olympics gold medal winner, Devendra couldn’t hold the gold this time but by winning a silver medal, he has become the most successful Indian athlete with three medals. He has also won the gold medal in Athens Olympics 2004. 

Bhavina Patel

Bhavina has created history by becoming the first Indian to win a medal in the Table Tennis event in Olympics. She bagged the silver medal in women’s table tennis class 4. 

Besides them, Javelin Thrower Sundar Singh Gurjar has won the bronze medal which is India’s third medal in the javelin throw event but in a different category that is F46. Another Indian shooter Singhraj Adhana has won a bronze medal for India.
